NaNoWriMo 2017

Well will you look at that! It's already November. Which means it's time for this year's National Novel Writing Month, aka. NaNoWriMo.

This be the time of year when writers all around the world gather to the virtual hub that is like pilgrims. The task? To write 50'000 words in 30 days.

"No way! That's impossible," you might say.

"Watch me," we say.

It's a community where we support each other rather than compete against one another. One word is still better than none. In the end it doesn't matter if you "win" (aka. write more than 50k words), if you've written something, anything, you've already won. I love that about NaNoWriMo. Because it doesn't matter where you come from or what level you're on right now, if you love writing you belong.

The goal of NaNoWriMo isn't to complete your novel, it's to get it on paper. To get that first draft done. Don't edit while you write because that's never going to work (unless you're one of those beasts who can edit as you go and not let it cripple you, in which case I don't like you. No, I'm not bitter. Shush.). The prime directive of NaNoWriMo is to get it out. Not done perfectly. Not to have a polished book by the end of the month. Just to get it out. If it's the first draft of a novel, the first draft of 10 short stories, or the first draft of your Bachelor's paper it doesn't matter. You write what you want, no one is going to correct it or read it unless you specifically ask that person if they'd like to be a beta reader. So shut that inner critic up.

I'm participating this year together with some real life friends, which makes it even more fun than previous years. This is my fifth year in a row of participating, and you know what? I've only "won" once. That hasn't made me any less keen on participating, however. If anything it's made me want to write even more.

I'm writing the first draft of the sequel to the one I wrote last year. The Taigeria Archives is the name of the series. First book is called Sword of Dalkor and is currently being edited, closing in on the professional edit even! Second hasn't been officially named yet, but working title is Brewing Trouble.

You can add me as a writing buddy, I go by the name "BMC_Empress" on the site.

Hope to see you there and creating some splendid stories!
